In March 2019, I spoke about conscious travelling at the Swiss German Club spring meeting in Zurich. Using the example of porter exploitation and my own experience while climbing Kilimanjaro, I made the case for the need of independent sustainable travel audits in tourism. We also discussed the needs to make booking a responsible trip easy for travellers and to work in close collaboration with local stakeholders in order to build a sustainable solution for more socially & environmentally responsible practices in tourism.
